End of Term

It is nearing the end of the year now. Room 8 is enjoying spending time together, singing Christmas songs and creating Christmas crafts. Have a safe holiday and a very Merry Christmas!

Slip 'n' Slide

Thank you Room 6 and Miss Simpson for organising the slip 'n' slide for us today! We had a great time and loved splashing in the pools at the end. What a fun way to spend a beautiful sunny morning. Perhaps over Summer you could create your own slip 'n' slide at home? Remember to use plenty of soap to make it nice and slippery!

Beach Trip

Wahoo! We had the best day ever at the beach. We all piled on the bus and drove to Foxton Beach. It was a long way and a very noisy bus trip. When we arrived at Mrs Davies beach house we had some morning tea to fill our puku's so we had lots of energy for the day ahead. Then we set off on an adventure through the sand dunes. We had the best time running, jumping, rolling and sliding up and down the sand dunes. We then headed to the beach. We had a sand sculpture competition, played games and had some play on the beach. After lunch we went on an adventure through the enchanted forest. We saw a hut and we climbed some trees. Mr Davies took us to the highest sand dune at Foxton Beach. Mr Davies challenged us to a race. Guess who won?..........Mr Davies did. Mrs Lynch is going to give him a rematch! At the end of the day we were all exhausted and some of us even had a wee snooze on the bus!

Thank you to all the parents for helping make this trip such a wonderful experience for the children. Also thank you to Mr and Mrs Davies for letting us use their beach house.

Firewise

Today Mr Darling came to our class to teach us about fire safety. We watched a DVD and the curtain caught on fire because the candle was too close to the curtain. He showed us a smoke alarm and we learnt about how important these are to have in our homes. How many do you have in your home? Get your child to count them and then come and tell me tomorrow.

We practiced an evacuation. When there is a fire we need to: GET DOWN! GET LOW! GET OUT! - FAST, shouting FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! We had to crawl underneath a sheet (smoke) and then walk fast to our safe meeting place. Where is your safe meeting place at home?

Thank you for all your support at home with this unit.

Pet Day

Room 8 had such a fun day today at pet day. We were impressed with all the different creations made by each class. There were decorated gumboots, miniature farms, pinecone owls, paper mache masks and many more cool things. Some children even won an award. We enjoyed looking at the different pets too, and watching children lead their lambs and calves around the ring - they were so obedient! It was an awesome day.

Get your running shoes on, it's time for cross country! Cross Country is on Friday the 23rd of October. In the first two weeks we will be doing training each day, running around the school field. The children will set goals each day e.g. My goal is to run 5 laps, My goal is to run 2 laps without stopping. Please make sure your child brings a change of clothes to run in each day. The cross country course is over the road in a paddock with lots of hills and mud!

Our Farm Trip

Yesterday we went to Mrs Davies farm. We had such a fun time. We got to see Mr Davies shear some sheep and some of the children were his rouseys. Mr Davies had some lambs to dock. The children helped to pick up the lambs. Ashton and Lucus nearly got docked to, it was very funny. After the docking we went to watch Kate the sheep dog round up the sheep. Mr Davies gave commands so Kate knew what to do. One of the best things we did was crawl through a tunnel. It was very dark. We ran and rolled down the steep hills and then we went on a walk to find the ducks. The ducks were in a shed and we got to feed them. What a great day!
Thank you Mr and Mrs Davies for letting us visit your farm. Thank you to the parents who drove us.

She persevered and it has taken the whole week.  Stevie got there and has finished the Sudoku puzzle.

Persevering

This week we have been focusing on Persevering! Sometimes things are very hard and we need to keep persevering until we can do them. This week we have been making patterns with beads. A very tricky part that we have had to do is to tie a knot in the end of the string. This has been quite hard for most of us and we have had to really persevere. Mrs Lynch helps us when we have had a good try by ourselves.

Also some of us have been trying to solve a Sudoku puzzle. We have tried each day but we still haven't got it. Ahhhh, this has been very frustrating.

Well done Room 8! You are getting very good at persevering when things are tricky.

How fun is crazy day? The children looked so fabulous in their crazy costumes. There were some pretty funny ideas. We had a parade and danced to some music. We got to see all the other classrooms in their costumes. Thank you to the Student Council for organising Crazy Day!

To make Crazy Day a bit crazy we decided to do some writing with paint. We practiced writing our fast words using finger paint.

Our Trip

We had the best day today at the Esplanade. We had so much fun riding our bikes and scooters along the river. It was a warm day, we got very hot. We rode for a long time, we were all very tired and had sore legs. After the ride we all sat together and had some lunch. Even though we were tired we still had some energy left to play on the playground at the Esplanade.  Thank you so much to all the parents for coming along and helping us today. Here are some photos of our day.

Maths Trail

Today Rooms 7, 8, 1 and 2 went on a Maths Trail around Halcombe School. It was great fun! We had to measure things, find and draw shapes, time ourselves running, weigh ourselves and so much more. We worked with a buddy and we were very good at helping each other and working together as a team. We thought it was exciting doing maths outside!

Jack and The Beanstalk

We went to the show. It was called Jack and the Beanstalk. It was funny when he couldn't turn his brain on and when the giant went "Fee Fi Fo Fum!" In the end the giant fell in his own rubbish.
